Researches, plans and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in prototype fabrication, operation and testing of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
Reads and interprets prints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports
Assists drafters in developing the structural design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software
Researches, designs, evaluates, installs, operates, and maintains mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles
Confers with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolves system malfunctions, or provides technical information
Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems
Recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
Conducts research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems
Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew
Develops and tests models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification
Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software
Recommends system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
Researches and analyzes Product Management design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications
Writes performance requirements for product development or engineering projects
Performs other duties that may be assigned
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
BSME from four-year college or university.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to use hand tools proficiently.
Ability to operate hoist safely.
Ability to use manual presses proficiently.
Ability to use air tools, grinders and saws proficiently.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; 3D Design software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software (MS Office).
